We are very lucky this year. When the new Kindergartens for 2018 come and visit us throughout term four, the current kindergartens are coming to the Year 5/6 classes to do activities. The activities have been designed by the Year 6 children of 5/6C. The activities were based on fairy tales eg, Beauty and the Beast, Gingerbread Man and Little Red Riding Hood.
Following are a lot of photos from our enjoyable time together. Last term we completed another STEM activity. The children were provide with 4, 20 cm in length sheets of cling wrap, 4 pencils and masking tape. They had to make a tunnel that would not collapse under the weight of sand covering it. Here are some of the successes....
Last Friday Broulee Public School completed the schools annual Walk a thon. It was a lot of fun and here are just a few pictures to show us enjoying lunch at the surf club. We also discovered a man made shelter on the way.
Please make sure to collect your sponsorship money and return ASAP. This week in STEM we pretended that Olaf from Frozen was going on a trip and he doesn't want to melt.
The children had to design a structure that stopped Olaf from melting. Using only the materials provided: Bubble wrap Newspaper Baking Paper Cling wrap Foil Before starting they had to measure the L and W of Olaf (Ice cube) then put Olaf in front a variety of heat sources. Ranging from a torch to the sun. They then measured moisture loss and remeasured the L and W to see the physical change. Below are some pictures of the children participating in this activity. This week 5/6C started STEM.
STEM is - Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Each week we are completing a task. This week we focused on the Three Little Pigs. The children had to build a structure that had to fit into the following criteria. It must be 18 cm tall. Use 10 pieces of newspaper. Must have a wall. The structures were then put in front of a fan. Low setting was a strong wind, Medium setting was a strong storm and high setting was a hurricane. Below are some photos that show the children creating these structures. |
