Dear Family Members,
Homework will be a regular feature of the class activities throughout most of the year. Even though homework is not a compulsory activity,
it is strongly advised that students participate in regular out-of-school activities which consolidate skills and develop a self-motivated work ethic
which is so vital for success in high school and future work pathways.
Please note the following points regarding homework.
• Homework will be set for periods of two weeks starting on Monday 20th February
• Homework will regularly comprise reading practice, spelling practice, tables practice and some tasks which are more open-ended or fun.
• There will be an online maths component which will be emailed to your child's NSW DEC email address. This activity is done online and
automatically submitted to me upon completion. There will be two skill levels of tasks. The titles will either say "Regular" or "Challenge".
Your child should select the more appropriate level to do. They may do both if they wish. I will assist your child with their level selection
if needed.
• If you do not have an internet connection or working device at home, please ask your child to tell me and I will give them time to log on
at school in place of another activity so that they can still give this activity a go.
• A summary of all the homework tasks for each fortnight will appear in this homework section - including the spelling list words for each week.
Most importantly, if your child is having difficulty with homework tasks or if you have concerns, please discuss this with me ASAP. Homework should be a useful undertaking and not a source of family upset and argument each week. If it's not working for you - please tell me.

A Word About Spelling
5/6C students will study and practise a spelling list of words most weeks. The students have been placed into one of three spelling groups for this task. Students will have an opportunity to move groups as their results dictate. The words which appear in the lists are the words set by me. Each week, the students will also be asked to supplement their list with some words of their own choosing. These list words will also be practised in class.
Homework spelling will usually include writing the words, spending time practising/remembering the words, placing the words into sentences which demonstrate an understanding of the words and sometimes a spelling game/quiz.
The 3 spelling groups will be:
• Group 1 - the easiest level
• Group 2 - these students will study group 1 words plus some more challenging words
• Group 3 - these students study group 2 words plus advanced, extension words
